Privacy
What we store, and why.
Ground Truth collects as little as a publication can. This page says exactly what is stored, where it lives, and how to have it removed — in plain language, because a privacy page you cannot check is just another unverified claim.
If you subscribe to the newsletter
The newsletter runs on our own infrastructure — a Cloudflare Worker with a Cloudflare D1 database, sending through Cloudflare's email service. No third-party newsletter company holds the list. When you subscribe we store:
- your email address, and the date and time you subscribed and confirmed;
- the page you subscribed from (a path like
/articles/— used only to know which pages readers sign up from); - the IP address at sign-up, used solely to rate-limit abusive bulk sign-ups;
- a random token that powers your confirmation and one-click unsubscribe links.
Subscription is double opt-in: no confirmation click, no email. The emails themselves contain no tracking pixels — we do not know whether you open them or what you click. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe that works immediately. Unsubscribing stops all email at once; to have your address deleted from the database entirely, email tips@groundtruth.health with the subject “Delete my data” and it will be removed.
Analytics on the site
The site currently uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits in aggregate — which pages are read, roughly where readers come from. That means Google sets identifiers in your browser and processes your IP address under Google's privacy policy. We use the default configuration, look only at aggregate numbers, and run no advertising, remarketing, or audience features. Page fonts are served from Google Fonts, so your browser also requests files from Google's servers when a page loads.
What we never do
- We do not sell, rent, share, or trade the subscriber list or any reader data — with anyone, for any reason.
- We do not run advertising, sponsored content, or third-party trackers beyond the analytics above.
- We do not enrich, profile, or combine your data with outside sources.
Retention
Subscriber records are kept while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, the record is marked unsubscribed and kept only so we cannot accidentally email you again; ask and it will be deleted outright. Aggregate analytics follow Google Analytics' standard retention settings.
